| Description: |
The Museum of Inuit Art (MIA) presents a selection of appliquéd and embroidered wall hangings from Qamanittuaq (Baker Lake) and Arviat artists, including Jessie Oonark, Ruth Qaulluaryuk, and Elizabeth Nutaraaluk; and woven tapestries from Panniqtuuq (Pangnirtung) artists including Malaya Akulukjuk.
Based on women’s traditional sewing craftsmanship and design skills, Inuit wall hangings have become a vibrant and expressive art form. Inuit textile artists today place an equal emphasis on beautiful design, and expert stitching or weaving.
